Choosing the Correct Brush or Comb for your Beard

Brushes

Use a natural bristle brush with a solid, comfortable handle. The unique structure of pure bristle carries sebum from the skin to the end of the hair shaft. By spreading the sebum across the entire hair strand, dry hair can be nourished and given added shine. Only natural bristles have these benefits. Cheap plastic or vinyl bristles have micro fissures which can damage your beard by causing snags.

We recommend that you gently wash your brush regularly with a little beard shampoo. However, don’t leave a wooden-handled brush to soak in water.

Combs

Some combs (particularly cheaper ones) are manufactured using the injection moulded process. This leaves the sides of the teeth with a very sharp edge that will pull the hair and scratch the skin. We recommend using Kent Combs which are saw cut and then hand finished to refine the polish and smooth the teeth. The combs glide effortlessly through the beard without scratching or damaging the hairs.

A comb with wider teeth is more suitable for thicker beards and a comb with narrower teeth is more suitable for a beard with finer hair.
